On Tuesday 9th June The Everton Foundation gave its support to the national 'Tackling Drugs Week' football tournament at the Greenbank Academy, Sefton Park.

The event, administered jointly with Lighthouse Project, was used as a platform to raise public awareness around substance misuse, but to also highlight the positive impact that sport and exercise can have in helping people overcome these issues.

Lighthouse Project are an independent organisation that has worked for over 40 years providing services that tackle the effects of drug use in the North West. They work directly with drug users, but also families, friends and the general public, through targeted awareness and intervention programmes.

Ten teams and more than 80 participants took part on the day with 'Genie in the Gutter' just pipping The Everton Foundation staff team 2-1 in the final. All teams were representing various drugs services throughout the region, including Together Women, a team of female participants who put up a valiant effort against the men.

A special appearance was made by Everton mascots Changy the Elephant and Toxteth the Tiger, with trophies and medals being presented by England Amputee International Steve Johnson, England Deaf Women's International Danielle Evans, and Liverpool Drug and Alcohol Action Team Manager Richie Humphreys.

The Everton Foundation is continuing to work with Lighthouse Project over the next 3-years as part of a new and exciting men's health programme called Premier League Health.
