The Everton Foundation Football Team recently joined up with partners from Sefton's Hate Crime Group to take part in a fundraising football event to raise awareness of the issues of hate crime.

The partners included, Sefton CVS, Sefton Equalities Partnership, Sefton MBC, One Vision Housing, NHS Sefton, Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and Sefton Young Offenders Team.

Liverpool Homeless Football Club and Mersey Marauders FC also took part

The event was part of Sefton Hate Crime Week and took place at Litherland Sports Park.

In all twelve teams participated in 7 a side matches with The Everton Foundation progressing through the Group stage into the knock out phase to play Sefton Vision in the final. After winning a tense penalty shoot out The Everton Foundation Team was presented with the Sefton Hate Crime Cup by Councillor Brenda Porter, Cabinet Member for Communities.

£500 was raised for The Michael Causer Fund, an 18 year-old gay man who was killed after becoming the victim of a violent homophobic attack in Huyton in 2008.

Mike Mills. Community Engagement Officer at The Everton Foundation and manager of the winning side said, ' It's always enjoyable when your team wins a cup but this tournament was all about taking part and raising awareness of hate crime issues. The event compliments much of the good work we already do at Everton Football Club in support of the national football campaigns Show Racism the Red Card and Kick It Out.'
