Everton Football Club is proud to support a new multicultural football league designed to help promote social inclusion across Liverpool.

The new FUTSAL five-a-side football league has been launched in the Kensington area of Liverpool by the Kensington United Community Football Group to address community cohesion issues, which often lead to incidents of hate crime. The league will take place every Monday at Kensington Sports Centre on Jubilee Drive and will involve players from many different walks of life.

The dynamic initiative is being supported by the Everton Foundation, who will also assist with the running of the league, Kensington Regeneration, Sports Action Zone, Merseyside Police, Victim Support and Liverpool City Council's City Safe Community Cohesion Team.

The new league, which launched on 26 October, will include the Everton Deaf team ensuring the Club has a presence each week.

Mike Mills, Community Engagement Officer for the Everton Foundation, said: "I am excited by the potential that this partnership offers and the real opportunity it presents. We can use the power of football to bring different groups together, learn more about each other and understand and respect our differences."

Everton is committed to supporting equality and is involved in many different socially inclusive programmes. The Club is proud to be one of the first Premier League clubs to be working towards the advanced level of the new Equality Standard.

Mark Jackson, from Kensington Regeneration said: "The FUTSAL multicultural league is a great way of bringing people together, challenging discrimination, making friends and having fun. The players really enjoy themselves and that's got to be a good thing."

Kensington United is a multicultural organisation which has been in operation since 2005 and has delivered positive football activity to more than 300 young people from many different social and ethnic backgrounds.

Paul Amann, Chair of Mersey Marauders FC added: "Mersey Marauders FC is pleased to participate in the Kensington Multi-Cultural League. As Merseyside's Gay Football Supporters Network team, we carry a message of respect and football for all and look forward to promoting our anti-homophobia in football campaign. We are committed to using football to build bridges between communities building on the proud record in Merseyside of football tackling sectarianism and racism in the past."
