Primary school children from Merseyside have been given the opportunity to see replicas of artefacts from the Everton Collection at Goodison Park.
The Everton Collection is the greatest collection of football memorabilia in the world relating to a single football club.
The opportunity for school children arose after it was announced that in September 2009 football will be used to inspire and engage pupils with the national curriculum. Schools will be able to hire a football treasure chest and take part in online learning resource completely free of charge.
The Everton Collection will be launched with a major exhibition in Liverpool Central Library, an extensive learning programme for schools and a ground-breaking new website - www.evertoncollection.org.uk.
The Collection is owned by the Everton Collection Charitable Trust, a registered charitable organisation with its own board of Trustees. The Trust acquired the David France Collection in 2007 with the help of Heritage Lottery funding.
Everton Football Club then donated its own archive of memorabilia to the Trust. The Collection is currently being catalogued, digitised and preserved by three full time members of staff at Liverpool Record Office.
Creative Learning Officer of the Collection, Belinda Scarlett, said: "By using football and the fantastic memorabilia in the Everton Collection we hope to engage school pupils across Liverpool with subjects such as history and literacy.
"Today pupils from Hope Valley Primary School, Barlows Primary School and Baring Sports College helped us to test some of these resources before we launch in September by taking part in a fun interactive session at the Everton Study Centre."
