Sylvain Distin has been out in the community meeting the young sports stars of the future as part of the Premier League 4 Sport programme.

The defender visited Greenbank Sports Academy in Sefton Park, Liverpool.

Everton is launching a Premier League 4 Sport scheme to provide superior and more sporting opportunities for young people in Merseyside.

"It is great to do something different rather than be at our training ground running in the rain!" Distin told evertonTV. "Everyone here is smiling, everyone is happy so it is good fun.

"It is nice to meet some of the youngsters across Liverpool, though I am not sure they are all Everton fans but it is always good to be around them and talk to them. They are always smiling and are positive which is nice."

The Blues are the latest top flight club to offer children the chance to get involved in four Olympic sports in a groundbreaking £3.8 million partnership with the Government.

Greenbank Sports Academy promotes opportunities for fitness and leisure amongst disabled children and adults.

Distin enjoyed spending time with the youngsters. "We always have to do appearances for the Club and some are more enjoyable than others. Something like this where you are around the kids are always a lot of fun" he added.

"You can relax, it's not a black tie event so you can have fun and enjoy speaking to the kids about what they are up to."
