Everton Tigers - Story of a Season....

The Tigers' 2008-2009 BBL campaign got off to a great start with an opening day victory against Sheffield Sharks 80-61.

The team then posted three straight league wins to set the early pace in the league table.

The cup campaign was off to a flyer as well, as the Tigers came away from Glasgow with a first round win against Scottish Rocks.

November grabbed the Tigers maximum points in their three league clashes and saw them up against BBL stalwarts Newcastle Eagles in a thrilling cup semi-final.

The Tigers narrowly lost in the first leg, but came back roaring in the decider to secure their first ever final appearance.

The Blues went into the New Year atop the league, with only an away defeat to Plymouth blemishing their December league record.

January was a month of cup action, with four wins out of four in the Trophy group stages bookending the Everton Tigers' first ever piece of silverware - The BBL Cup.

A great day out for the passionate Tigers support, the team created history in Birmingham after demolishing the Plymouth Raiders.

The Tigers continued their strong league form into February with three wins from three, but Newcastle Eagles brought the team back to earth with revenge in the BBL Trophy semi-final.

With other competitions out of the way, March was the business end of the league championship and it proved to be a bittersweet experience for the team.

Losses to Guildford Heat and Leicester Riders handed the advantage to the Eagles and, despite a 5,000 crowd in the Liverpool Arena for the first of the three game series, the team could not dent the Eagles' march towards the title.

Pride was salvaged in April with 101-80 victory against the eventual league champs and helped the Tigers secure an unprecedented second place in only their second season.

Scottish Rocks were dismissed in the final game of the season at Greenback in the Play off quarter finals.

The Blues saw off Leicester Riders in the Saturday semi-final before coming agonising close to beating Newcastle in the Playoff final at the National Indoor Arena, bringing down the curtain on an excellent second season in the BBL for the Tigers.
