> About Us
Everton Football Club has always had a special bond with its
local community.
This has enabled us, the 'People's Club', to generate
and maintain an unbreakable link, which has been established over
100 years of top-flight football, with the local community.
It was in 1988 that this relationship was taken further with the
development of a co-ordinated community programme and, on 1 June
2004, Everton in The Community (EITC) was born as a registered
charitable company (no.1099366), financially independent of Everton
Football Club.
With Everton Football Club as the main sponsor, EITC was governed by a board of trustees which comprised a balance of Everton Football Club officials and local independent non-Everton staff. Thanks to the help of various partnerships with other organisations, EITC instigated a range of engaging sports related activities, programmes and initiatives with the aim of making a difference to the lives of people on Merseyside.
Through the work of EITC, it became clear that the programmes in place had huge potential to engage all members of the community, regardless of their age, sex, ability or background.
On 16 May 2009, EITC was officially relaunched as The Everton
Foundation.
This name change is more than a mere cosmetic exercise however. It
will signal a new era in community investment and involvement, with
the support of Everton Football Club as well as that of other
partners.
